The first ‘burgerton‘ happened back in August 2014, and it was a totally enjoyable day. Earlier this year it was felt it was time to re-visit the concept, and a date was set. As it turned out… exactly the same date as the first one… Sunday, 26th August.
The invitations were sent out to the original gathering and a few more new friends were added to the list.

all set to dine
Over the course of the summer I saw on Facebook that the Peter McVerry Trust were asking for volunteers to host a bbq among family and friends to raise funds on their behalf. What a great idea? I signed us up immediately. What did it matter how much, or how little, we raised. Every little helps and what a great cause. (For those outside of Ireland, the Peter McVerry Trust battles homelessness tirelessly.)

Alfie even made the burger buns on the bbq
Having had glorious sunshine weather for most of the summer, Sunday was a dull and misty day. Typical! We battled on… we are Irish, we can ignore the weather. The troops arrived, we cooked, we ate, we chatted, we drank beer and wine, and we sat outside until 10 pm.
It was a mighty day, with wonderful people and great conversation.
To those who have contributed to our fundraising already thank you so much. I had set a small target of €100 but by close of business yesterday we had raised €275, with more donations promised. Now I’m hoping we can bypass €400. If you’d like to donate you can do so here.
Special thanks to some people who contributed to the day:
- A Room Outside for the loan of the mighty Komado Joe bbq.
- Brid – who brought some delicious wines.
- Margaret – who did the last minute emergency shop for us on her way here!
- Catherine – what a trifle.

A Mighty Trifle
To all who came along and helped make it such a wonderful day ‘thank you’.
What do you think…. do we make it an annual event?
