Yes, after 8 years we got to go on a holiday. It all came about by a series of lucky breaks – cheap flights and the generosity of a friend in lending us his house.
I won’t bore you with all the details, but we holidayed in rural France in the Deux Sevres region. It was every bit like rural Tipperary with maybe more villages and towns, and the temperatures just a tiny bit warmer.
There are some amazing towns in the area…. we particularly liked Partenay and Poitiers.
Our observations were that cost of living is generally more expensive in rural France than it is here…. only things cheaper were wine, petrol and land. Land is only €3,000 a hectare, compared to about €25,000 around here!
Loved the markets and the selection of vegetables and flowers available. Also loved that absolutely everyone has a vegetable patch.
Sounds lovely, Margaret. I love holidaying in France. Hope you had fun and are settling back into normality.
Thanks June…. back to normal again!
Great that you managed to get away. I wonder why it seems to be continental Europe that grow their own veg, no one around us does and they all think that we are strange that we do.
Anne, we get same reaction here… I’m told ‘it’s cheap to buy in supermarket’!!! Given up telling them about the difference in flavour and quality, the lack of pesticides, etc. etc.
