I’ve saved the best part of the recent trip to Dublin til last!  You’ve heard about the delightful tea shop I discovered.  I got to meet new customers which is always nice to do.

However, having completed the pork deliveries I hopped on a train into Dublin to link up with my family to celebrate my nephew’s Confirmation.  We were meeting for lunch in Chapter One.  I cannot remember the last time I was in Chapter One, it must be 10 years.  Needless to say I was really looking forward to both meeting up with family and enjoying good food.

I was not disappointed.

Our lunch was amazing!

The Menu

The choices on the menu…. where to start??  It was agreed that we’d all have something different so we could taste.

There were 9 of us (including 3 junior gourmands), so there were plenty of options on the various dishes to be sampled.

Smoke cured Porbeagle Shark

I chose the Smoke Cured Porbeagle Shark with leek and mandarin vinaigrette with cold pressed rapeseed oil and roast hazelnuts.  It was so utterly gorgeous.

The Gratinated Asparagus with pata negra stuffing was also wonderful. And those who had the Pea Soup were equally pleased.

For mains I chose Hake cooked with seaweed and Japanese salt, broccoli puree and lemon emulsion, crab beignet.

My sister, Sarah, went for the Middle Neck of Tamworth Pork with braised cheek…. the first time I’ve seen cheek on a menu in a restaurant and it was so tasty!

In the end only two of the desserts were sampled.  My brother, Seamus, tried the Poached rhubarb with iced yoghurtvanilla and yoghurt mousse, pistachio and rhubarb financier – what a work of art!

The 3 juniors all opted for Warm chocolate mousse, caramel jelly, espresso mousse, lime ice cream and honeycomb.  These food critics had opinions on dessert!!!  Alexander, the Confirmation Boy, thought the lime ice-cream was a bit overpowering with the chocolate??? and wasn’t shy about telling one of the chef’s so!!  Juliet (age 7) felt the Chocolate Mousse needed some colour so added a sprinkling of Smarties which she just happened to have to hand! I kid you not!  Thankfully I don’t think any of the chefs spotted that addition!

Altogether it was a wonderful lunch – we were treated so so well.  We got a tour of the kitchens and in to see the Chef’s Table.   A huge thanks to Ross Lewis and his team of 22 chefs, and all the wonderful front of house staff who were so helpful and welcoming and contributed greatly to making our meet up so incredible.

It was also lovely to see that the various suppliers of produce were accredited on the menu.

AND FINALLY ……… I can reveal to you all right now that Chapter One is doing the catering for the Queen’s visit to Dublin Castle….. she won’t be disappointed!
