Congratulations to all those who’ve made it to the short-list…. well done you!

I haven’t, but no matter.  I was in the ‘personal’ category this year…. which I thought strange, but I guess it is how ‘you’ out there read my blog and categorise it…. it is not my opinion that matters.  And, of course, thank you to whoever you are that nominated me!

I volunteered to help with the judging this year, as I have done for the past three years.  And, yes, didn’t I write a blog post about learning to say ‘no’ to volunteering…. I am still learning!!!!!

Obviously, I didn’t get involved in judging in the category that we were nominated in, but I did do a few others, and I wanted to share my thoughts with you.

Firstly, I think every blogger should volunteer to judge.  It is good for you.  You learn a lot.  You will see what amazing talent is out there, and appreciate the competition!  You will be blown away by the amount of work that goes on behind the scenes… mostly on a voluntary basis.

Through judging I have found blogs (and people) from around the world, that I would perhaps never have found, and now I communicate with them on a regular basis… they’ve become virtual friends.

I’ve had people say to me that they would not know enough about some of the topics to be competent to judge them.  To that I say ‘stuff and nonsense’.  It is up to the blogger to bring you into their world, and enthral you with their passion. You will learn from that.  I couldn’t write a ‘humorous’ post…. but I do know when a post makes me laugh or giggle.

So to all of you I say, give a little time.  Don’t say you are ‘too busy’ – we all are! The call for volunteers usually goes out in June or so… be ready next year.

My second point today is to all those new bloggers (there were over 200 of them this year).  I know as that was one of the categories I judged. Or if you are thinking about starting a blog…. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE make sure to put in an ‘About’ section.  So many of the ‘new’ blogs didn’t have an ‘about’ section…. it is very difficult for the reader to establish where you are based, what is the purpose of your blog, why are you writing.

Just a little detail about who you are, why you are blogging, even explain the name of your blog.  Just anything to make you a real person.

To all you finalists, fingers and toes are crossed for you on Saturday night.  Of course, I have already chosen who my winners would be…. let’s see if I’m right 🙂

Today, this blog is three years old, and what a way to celebrate…..

Best Lifestlye Blog Award 2012

We won!

WE WON!

Yes, last night we won the Best Lifestyle Blog award at the Blog Awards!  Still so stunned and speechless!

Where to start with the ‘thank yous’!

Thank you to all who read the blog!  When I started 3 years ago I had no idea where it would lead to but it has been a wonderful journey!

Thank you to whoever believed enough in the blog to nominate it! It was a shock to see the name on the long list, and then on the the list of finalists.  And when I read the others on the Finalist list… I thought well it was nice to partake.  I did not expect to win!

Thank you to the three lovely ladies who ran the Blog Awards Ireland event – Lorna, Amanda and Beatrice.  A job well done!  It was a great night!

Thank you to all the lovely people who have been tweeting ‘congratulations’ since…. still beaming from ear to ear!

Thank you to my sister, Sarah, who was my support last night and did the ‘artwork’ on my trophy!  Just in case I’d ever forget what I won it for 🙂

And finally, huge thank you to Lorna from Garrendenny Lane Interiors (yes, the same Garrendenny as the goats come from) who sponsored the Lifestyle Blog award.

So this a major happy birthday to us…. happy birthday to us…..

I guess we should say thank you to the gods for the 2 days of summer we had this week?  For those not living in Ireland we’ve had the wettest, windiest summer ever!  The last time we had a couple of days of good sunshine was way back in March.

We’ve missed you sun.  It was lovely to have you around even if it was only for a couple of days!

Thank you too to all the Irish Olympians!  Didn’t they do well?  I am not a huge athletics or boxing fan, but I became engrossed in it this year.  I watched, or listened to most of the Irish competitors.  So thank you to one and all but particularly to the medal winners – Katie Taylor, Paddy Barnes, Michael Conlon, John Joe Nevin and Cian O’Connor… you gave us all so much to cheer about! 🙂  And then, of course, there is Rory McIlroy’s win!

What great young people are out there!

Thank you to friends, family and neighbours who’ve come on long or short visits this summer and have been roped into helping out about the place!  It is appreciated!

And finally, major, major thank you to whoever nominated my blog in the Irish Blog Awards!  Tis a big long list, and there will be a short-list.  It doesn’t matter if I get no further.  The blog is on a LIST!!!

When I started writing I wasn’t sure if anyone would read it!  Despite the statistics telling you how many visitors you’ve had…. it is still somewhat of a shock to think complete strangers are reading what you write.  I’ve had people stop me in the supermarket to say they’ve been reading it (to you I say… I’d love if you’d put up a little comment!  Just so I know you are there! 🙂

Being nominated for the awards – now that really makes it all worthwhile!  Thank you so much to who ever went to the effort.

So life is generally quite good…. I hope you’ve been enjoying your summer wherever you are.  And with a bit of luck maybe we will get another dose of sunshine again before winter!!!!!

Fingers crossed…
