Or as it is generally known as The Ploughen……
Spring was in the air this afternoon and we had the local ploughing contest taking place just down the road. The sun shone, a cold breeze was blowing, but we wrapped up warm and went off to admire.
Hundreds of people were about.
It was as though we were all coming out of hibernation. We met lots of the neighbours that we hadn’t seen all winter, everyone was so delighted to get out into a little bit of sunshine.
I am not 100% sure about the whole contesting part….. but precision is definitely involved. Lots of measuring tapes were at the ready. Straight lines to be adhered to. Proper depth of the furrow.
When I say precision, I mean PRECISION. This section took best part of 3 hours to plough…. how’s about that for precision!
There were tractors of every size shape and form….. vintage to big mighty modern-day monsters.
But these were my favourites.
I hope I’ve remembered the man’s name correctly…. this is Mr. Eddie Larkin from Eyrecourt with his most beautiful horses – Samson and Katie. Talk about gentle giants.
How could you not love Samson and Katie?
Aren’t they just beautiful?
And as one man sidled up to me and said…… “now you wouldn’t want to see them in burgers”. And that’s all I’m going to say on the whole #horsegate thing….
One has to have a great deal of respect for those who labour in the fields so that we may have food on our tables.
I adore the first picture of the horse *sharing a secret* and both of the horses, Samson and Katie are beautiful.
Thank you Paula…. even with today’s monster machinery, it is still a full time job to keep the crops going.
