When I drew back the curtains yesterday morning….. I thought ‘oh no’….. we’re barbecuing today!
Our lawns were completely flooded by the overnight rain….. but at least the ducks were extremely happy.
There was nothing to do but pack up the car with a multitude of clothes! We were off to the first ever Irish Big Green Egg fest which was held at A Room Outside in Limerick. (If you want to drool over magnificent outdoor furniture – you should drop by! I want a hot tub!!!!) Caroline and Liam from A Room Outside know how we love our Big Green Egg and use it 4 or 5 times a week – so they’d asked us to join in the fun.
I know some people out there are probably saying ‘are you mad?’ barbecuing in November! Maybe we were, but we were determined to show that you can cook Christmas dinner on the barbecue – we’ve done it here before!
When we got to Limerick – the SUN was shining!
The weather stayed beautiful for the entire day!
The crowds arrived and were absolutely wowed by the wonderful food.
The choice was amazing – sausages, smoked salmon, fresh salmon, prawns, boned and rolled turkey, spatchcocked turkey, ham, turducken, pork, chicken – cooked so many different ways, pizza, baked alaska, pineapple, bananas…… everything cooked on the barbecue.
The four ‘chefs’ were kept busy …. Roger gave impromptu demonstrations on how to spatchcock a turkey, as well as boning a turkey out completely in preparation for the turducken.
The ‘chef’ from this house was intrigued that his pizzas were one of the major hits of the day! He made potato pizza with regular potato and sweet potato…. and the more unusual turnip and nutmeg pizza! People were asking where they could buy them!!!
And right into late afternoon people kept coming ….
I had some Baked Alaska! I hadn’t had Baked Alaska in years, and years, and years
It was yum!
Overall a great day was had…. thank you to everyone who came along.
There were four very happy ‘chefs’ at the end of the day…. very proud of their lovely trophies presented by Liam and Caroline.
The day ended with cleaning up, reloading the car and driving home in thick fog…. but listening to the Munster game! OMG Ronan O’Gara did it again! Were you watching/listening?
A brilliant end to a great day! 🙂
Sounds like a lot of fun was had by all Margaret. We are kneee deep in preparation for out Thansgiving week with friends coming in on Tuesday from the US. Looking forward to seeing you soon xx
It is always hectic when visitors are due! Yesterday was fun (but exhausting)! Today we took time out to visit a beautifully restored old mill!

Love your picture of the ducks! Looked like a brilliant day out, with lots to learn, see and sample. Great that the weather held too.
Thanks Colette…. they are so enjoying this weather! We have springs everywhere at the moment so flooding on lawn continues!

Margaret,
Alfie had told me about this day and I did have it pencilled into my diary but I had to scribble it out again as we had visitors come to stay this weekend so any trips to Limerick were off. It sounds as though I missed a great day though. I’m definitely going to have to make it to one of your events some day soon. Would you believe I’ve yet to taste your pork????!!!
Hi Sharon,
It was a great day and we had amazing sunshine! I think the only place in the country that did have sunshine on Saturday! There were lots of people from North Kerry there too!
We’ll have to get you to taste the pork somehow! Maybe a visit is due!
Margaret
