Farmer Alfie went back to his roots yesterday! We spent the day at Portroe Dive Centre, so Alfie got to hang out with divers for the day! Boy, was he a happy chappy 🙂
Portroe Dive Centre which is about 40 minutes away from us, opened up just 6 months ago so they had a bit of a party yesterday to celebrate and to thank those who have supported them.
It was also Project Aware‘s International Underwater Clean Up day. So all the divers were taking rubbish and anything that shouldn’t be there out of the quarry – there was quite a haul! I think I counted three ovens!
While Farmer Alfie didn’t get to go diving – he was the chef in charge of the pig on the spit – he did get to spend hours chatting to divers.
I got meet and chat with some lovely people too. Thank you to the man from the Irish Coastguard crew for the great advice on cameras.
I have memories of going to Portroe probably about 10 years ago with a bunch of divers. While it was always a beautiful picturesque spot, getting in and out of the water (known as the ‘green hole’) was always dangerous. Now, however, you can walk right to the waters edge, jump in for your dive, and there is a platform and steps to get out of the water. Piece of cake really!
The sun shone down on things yesterday, and about 80 people turned up for a great day. Some people even managed to squeeze 3 dives into the day.
There was a great atmosphere . The spit roasted pig – which we, at Oldfarm Pork, sponsored – was quite an attraction, and had many of the kids intrigued! A huge thank you once again to Zip Firelighters who sponsored the charcoal.
When all the diving and eating was done, the day finished up with a free raffle for a dive computer which was sponsored by Suunto.
Well done to the team at Portroe Dive Centre – Rory, Barbara and Peter – for organising a magnificent day.
