Well not quite – but almost!
The past 2 weeks here at Oldfarm have been pretty hectic and we are almost at the end! It finishes up with a neighbour cooking dinner for us tonight – thank you, Anne Marie – cos I don’t think I’d have the energy to cook tonight!
So as it has been so busy here, I thought I’d give you a photographic tour of our village – Main Street, Lorrha. My brain is just too tired to write a blog…. sorry!
We are 2 miles from the village which was once a thriving community with a cinema, 2 or 3 petrol stations, a number of shops and pubs, and is now reduced to 2 pubs and 1 shop.
This photo was taken on one of the busiest days for the village – Lorrha Fun Day – but the rain had everyone scurrying indoors!
Lorrha has a rich history with the ruins of 2 old monasteries in the village. I believe at one time over 1000 monks lived in the village!

- yes, this is the pub window!

In 2010, there is just one tiny shop and 2 pubs left in the village.
There are similar villages all over Ireland, it would be such a pity to see them die altogether.
It is important that local shops and pubs are supported in rural Ireland, otherwise where will that leave the local community.
