Every year for the past few years, the Lorrha Local Development Association – our local residents association, have arranged a summer Fun Day in the village.
Today was the chosen date…. and as luck would have it the rain came and poured down!
Last year we brought some of the piglets down and they were a great hit with all the kids. This year, the rain was just so torrential (and still is!!!) at the last minute we had to decide not to bring the pigs. It just wouldn’t have been fair to them…. no pig likes the rain!
The committee did have a contingency plan and lots of things moved into the Parish Hall.
The dog show and the games for the kids were being organised in between showers!
Liz was having great fun trying to get the kids (not to mind the dogs!) into some sort of order!
And then the rain would come and everyone had to run for cover. This is Main Street, Lorrha on perhaps the busiest Sunday of the year!!
We did get to buy some Home-made Butter….. which was being made on the spot. Did you know it takes 2.5 gallons of milk to make 1 pound of butter! Farmer Alfie plans to safe some! for the Food bloggers outing on Wednesday.
Rather than take the pigs down……. perhaps, we should have considered taking the ducks…… they wouldn’t have minded the weather…… and maybe, they could have taken part??????
Hi – I am sitting here in Africa in similar weather, the only difference being that it is winter here. I decided today that farming in the UK would not suit me as I hate getting drenched and cold. Farming is the same the world over with only climatic conditions to be taken into account. There is a museum in Worcester which is about 40 mins from here where you can watch candles and soap being made. They also bake bread in a clay oven. It is sad when the skills of yesteryear are lost. The present generation doesn’t seem too interested. For example, my daughter can’t knit, sew or crochet.
Yesterday I lit my solid fuel Aga. It has made such a difference to the comfortable feeling in the kitchen – best room in the house, apart from my bathroom that has under floor heating. My eldest cat, Precious Mtwetwe, has taken up residence there for the winter….
Hope that your weather improves!
Thank you! Sun shining now!!!! But for how long? Have just been out feeding hens and ducks and got soaked! I cannot count how often I end up changing my clothes each day!
I know what you mean about the Aga…. here we are on 13th June and have just decided to light our stove in the kitchen it is so miserable!
JaneyMac you faired worse that we did in the weather stakes today. We had some fairly bad showers but fine inbetween. Got to the church cake sale and even the playground!!
Anyway, just to say … I heart butter 🙂
er… no to ducks, Ducks dont like being stuffed in bags at end of race!!
