So much has been going on in the past 10 days that I haven’t had a minute to write!
However, before I fill you in on what has been happening most recently I thought I should go back to two weeks ago and to our Annual Tea Party!
When we were first asked to attend the Tea Party, which is a fundraiser for our local national school, we stupidly thought Tea Party = something going on in the afternoon! Not at all, around here the Tea Party starts at 10.30 p.m. on a Saturday night. Next question that would spring to mind is ‘what does one wear to a Tea Party at 10.30 p.m.?’ The answer, anything goes.
The Tea Party is held in our local GAA hall which luckily for us is within walking distance from home. It is the only thing that happens here that we can actually walk to! So off we went the first year, not sure what to expect. Besides being asked very directly if we were planning to have any children (there were only 12 children attending the school which puts it under threat of closure), we had a great night.
Why wouldn’t you have a good night… all drinks at that time were €3.00, there’s great music, and at 12.30 or so, everything stops for the biggest feed up of tea, sandwiches and cake! Tea over, and drinking and dancing resumes!
The Tea Party has now become an annual fixture on our social calendar here in Redwood, and as the years have passed, of course, we have gotten to know even more people – even if we haven’t got any children (nor do we intend to have any) attending the school!
